Voice cloning is a technology that allows the replication of a person's voice. This includes capturing the unique tone, pitch, and accent to create what's called a voice signature. The voice signature is used to generate speech that sounds like the original speaker.

Do you know the difference between translation and localization? People often conflate the two, but there is a clear and important distinction.

Translation — the focus is on the words and is a process for converting text from one language into another.

Scenario: A website translates a product description from English to Spanish to ensure Spanish-speaking customers understand the features and benefits.

Localization — the focus is adapting content for target markets while maintaining the original formatting. This involves translating the content into one or many languages while maintaining the original layout and ensuring cultural appropriateness. This includes anything from idioms and number formats to cultural nuances and regional regulations.

Scenario: A website’s privacy policy and terms of service need to be available in 50+ languages. Localization ensures that the content is not only translated but also adapted to maintain legal formatting and address regional legal requirements.

It’s similar to how a square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square. Localization includes translation but also goes further to tailor the content for local relevance.

Carta Total Compensation expanded it's product offering internationally, providing customers with access to salary & equity benchmarks for 45 countries, enabling companies to effectively hire and retain international talent.

Problem

Carta Total Comp only provided compensation benchmarks for the United States, as the majority of Carta's customers are US-based VC-backed companies. Despite this focus, many US-based customers had international employees and needed a way to benchmark their compensation.

Contributions

As Lead Product Manager, I led the initiative to internationalize the product, overseeing customer discovery and shaping the product strategy & roadmap. I collaborated closely with design & engineering to ensure a seamless user experience, worked with the machine learning team to guarantee benchmark accuracy, and partnered with G2M teams to drive customer adoption.

Outcome

Successfully launched an MVP within 3-months, providing benchmarks for 45 countries & 30 currencies, supporting 20% of customers.

Lilt’s Figma plugin is a revolutionary tool that simplifies the process of designing customer experiences across multiple languages.

Designers can opt for Instant Translation utilizing a custom machine translation engine or Verified Translation involving human translators assisted by the Lilt Platform.

Problem

Designing international products in Figma faces complexities as linguistic differences can break designs. Localizing Figma frames required exporting design copy to linguists, delaying rapid iteration for design.

Contributions

As Senior Product Manager, I leveraged my AI/ML + platform skills to create a robust API for Instant Translation. I led the product strategy + roadmap, collaborating with design, engineering, and G2M stakeholders to launch a revolutionary Figma plugin.

Outcome

The Lilt Figma plugin revolutionizes design localization, saving time and enhancing design quality, thus improving multilingual customer experiences.

Joybird transformed furniture shopping by releasing an AR-based furniture placement app available on both Android & iOS. Now shoppers can seamlessly visualize furniture & fabrics in their space, from the comfort of home.

Problem

Joybird faced a sudden challenge when Apple unexpectedly announced the release of ARKit. As development of the Android app neared completion, Joybird opted against releasing it on it's own. Instead development of an iOS app using ARKit was expedited to quickly launch both apps.

Contributions

As Product Lead, I spearheaded research into ARKit capabilities & coordinated the development of a unified backend API for seamless Android & iOS integration. Additionally, I defined the requirements & acceptance criteria to ensure the apps met Joybird's standards prior to launch.

Outcome

Successfully launched two AR-based furniture placement apps <2 months after the ARKit announcement, positioning Joybird as a pioneer in utilizing AR within the eCommerce space.
